Zekeriya, çocuk sahibi olacağı müjdesinin şaşkınlığı sonucunda bir mucize isteğinde bulunması ve bunun onda yaşanması nedeniyle üç gün konuşamadığı için tebliğini işaretle yapmış, görevini terk etmemiştir. [Vahiy] kelimesi Yüce Allah'ın dışında başka varlıklar için kullanılırsa buna "gayr-ı ilahi vahiy" denmektedir. Burada ilgili kelimenin sözlük manalarından birisi olan "işaret etmek, ilham etmek veya emretmek" anlamları kastedilmektedir. Hz. Zekeriya "üç gün konuşamadığı için" artık kavmine işaret diliyle bilgi vermeye çalışmaktaydı. Zaten Al-i İmrân 3:41'de geçen [remz] kelimesi de "işaret" anlamına gelmektedir. Tebliğde sözünü ettiği şey, "üç gün gelemeyeceğim; siz devam edin" veya "işaretle de olsa sabah-akşam tesbihe devam edelim" mesajı da olabilir.

Allah'ın, her türlü kusur ve eksiklikten arınık, bütün mükemmel niteliklere sahip olduğunu bilmek; Allah'ı kendisine özgü nitelikleri ile tanımak ve tanıtmak. Tesbih, tevhid inancının ve anlayışının kavranması ve Yaratıcının tüm nitelikleri ile tanınması ve tanıtılmasıdır. Allah'ı tesbih etmek; O'nu şirk içeren her türlü düşünce ve inançtan arındırarak, Kendisine özgü nitelikleri ile yüceltmek demektir. (20:130). Tesbihi, namazda tesbih çekmeye indirgemek bidat ve hurafedir.

Tesbih, tevhid inancının ve anlayışının kavranmasıdır. Allah'ı şirk içeren her türlü düşünce ve inançtan arındırarak, Kendisine özgü nitelikleri ile yüceltmek demektir (20:130). Tesbihi, bazı sözlerin (Subhanallah, Elhamdulillah vb.) belli sayılarla tekrar edilmesine indirgemek hurafeden başka bir şey değildir.

"Mabeddeki has oda" anlamı verdiğimiz kelime mihrab (المحراب)'dır. "Mihrab; oda, hünkar mahfili, başoda, sultanın tek başına kaldığı has oda, harem dairesi, insanların oturduğu ve toplandığı yer vs. anlamlarda kullanılır (Lisan'ul-Arab ve el-Kamus'ul-Muhit).
