This is a very meaningful sentence. It may mean that the people may find paths for traveling on the earth, and it may also mean that the wisdom that underlies the skill and the system of their creation may guide them to the reality.

"Broad highways" are the passes between high mountains and the valleys and ravines made by the rivers in the mountainous regions and other natural ways that connect different regions on the earth.

Dağ anlamına gelen (راسي) rasi" kelimesinin çoğulu olan (رواسي) revasi", Kur'an'da 9 kez geçmektedir. Bu ayette olduğu gibi 2 ayette daha (ميد) meyd" fiiliyle birlikte kullanılmıştır ({{16:15}}Nahl 16/15,{{/}} {{31:10}}Lokman 31/10{{/}}). Meyd, "gidip gelme, sallanma, sarsılma" anlamlarına gelmektedir. Bu sebeple kelimenin geçtiği üç ayete, "sizi sarsmasın diye sabit dağlar yerleştirdi" şeklinde meal verilmekte, bu da dağların bulunduğu bölgelerde deprem olmadığı gibi bir yanlış anlamaya sebep olmaktadır. Oysa ayetteki (أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ) en temide bikum" ifadesini "sizi sarsar diye" şeklinde çevirmek metne daha uygun olacaktır. Dolayısıyla ayetin meali "sizi sarsar diye yere sabit dağlar yerleştirdi" şeklinde olmalıdır. Ayette insanları sarsacak olan "yeryüzü"dür (الأرض). Dağların varlığı insanları bu sarsıntı esnasında korumak, daha güvenli bir yerleşim yeri oluşturmak içindir. Ayette dağların yeri sabitlemesinden bahsedilmemektedir. Nitekim toprak, kum ve alüvyonlu kıyı kesimlerin depremlerde en uzun süreli sarsıntı yaratan, sarsıntının şiddetinin en büyük, hızının en fazla olduğu bölgeler olduğu, dağlık ve kayalık alanlarda ise bu sarsıntıların çok daha kısa ve yavaş olduğu yerbilimleri tarafından da tespit edilmiş gerçeklerdir. Ayet bu gerçeği dile getirmekte, bu özelliğinden dolayı dağlar için demir atma, sabitleme kök anlamından türetilmiş (رواسي) revasi kelimesi kullanılmaktadır.
